Green Lantern (2011) is an Action/Adventure, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Superhero, 3D and Adaptation movie and the film distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax... he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all. In early 1997, Warner Bros. approached cult filmmaker and comic book writer Kevin Smith, who had then just finished writing Superman Lives, to script a Green Lantern film. Smith turned down the offer, believing there were other suitable candidates to make a Green Lantern movie. Warner Bros. eventually changed the direction of the film into that of a comedy; by June 2006, Robert Smigel had completed a script which was set to star Jack Black in the lead role. However, the studio dropped the comedy idea due to poor fan reaction on the Internet. In an attempt to change the tone of Green Lantern to be taken more seriously, Zack Snyder was approached to direct, but he turned down the offer due to his commitment on Watchmen.

Actor-writer Corey Reynolds, a comic book fan and personal fan of the John Stewart character, pitched Warner Bros. an idea for a trilogy, with him starring as John Stewart and performing screenwriting duties. Reynolds intended to introduce Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern Corps and Justice League in possible sequels. He finished the script for Green Lantern: Birth of a Hero in June 2007, receiving positive feedback from Warner Bros. with a potential 2010 release date. However, the studio abandoned Reynolds' concept, and in October 2007, Greg Berlanti signed to direct/co-write the film. The decision was made to have Hal Jordan as the protagonist instead of John Stewart. Comic book writers Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim were hired to co-script the film with Berlanti.

Berlanti, Green and Guggenheim found it difficult writing the script because two of their drafts of the screenplay had been leaked on the Internet during the scripting phase. Guggenheim explained that the characterizations of the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams run on the comic in the 1970s, and Dave Gibbons' work in the early 1980s, will be portrayed in the film. The writers also took inspiration from the current Geoff Johns stories. "It’s been interesting because we finished a draft just before Secret Origin (ISBN 9781401219901), Geoff’s latest arc, started up," Guggenheim observed in June 2008. "So I’ve been reading Secret Origin with a real interest in seeing "OK, how did Geoff solve this problem?’ There are certain elements just for anyone trying to retell Hal’s origin for a modern day audience has to address and grapple with," he continued. "For example, why the hell was Abin flying in a space ship when he’s a Green Lantern? You don’t ask that question back in the Silver Age, but when you’re writing in the Modern Age, you have to answer these things." The script also features Martin Jordan, Carl Ferris, Carol Ferris, Thomas Kalmaku, Tomar-Re, Abin Sur, Sinestro, Kilowog, the Guardians of the Universe, Legion and Hector Hammond as well as cameos by Guy Gardner and Clark Kent. The story follows the original Hal Jordan/Green Lantern storyline, including the battle between Legion and Abin Sur, Abin Sur's crash landing on Earth, as well as the choosing of Hal Jordan over Guy Gardner and Clark Kent. Some parts are drawn from the Emerald Dawn mini-series.

By December 2008, the writers had written three drafts of the screenplay and Warner Bros. was preparing for pre-production. However, Berlanti was forced to vacate the director's position due to scheduling conflicts with This Is Where I Leave You and Martin Campbell entered negotiations to direct in February 2009. The release date was set as December 2010, before being moved to June 17, 2011.

After a pool of actors from the likes of Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake were screentested, it was announced in July 2009 that Ryan Reynolds had been cast as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. In January 2010, the film was greenlighted for production to begin in March. It was also reported that Hal Jordan's love interest, Carol Ferris, would be played by Blake Lively. Carol ultimately will become the villain Star Sapphire, although there's no word whether there might be some hint of that in the first movie. Later that same month, it was revealed that Peter Sarsgaard would portray Hector Hammond and that Mark Strong was in negotiations to play Sinestro. Also in January 2010 concept art for Kilowog, Abin Sur, and Tomar-Re surfaced. On February 9, 2010 Tim Robbins joined the cast as Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of Hector Hammond. On March 14, 2010, it was announced that Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi had joined the cast as Abin Sur and Tom Kalmaku, respectively.

Budgeted at US$150 million, Green Lantern was initially scheduled to begin filming in November 2009 at Fox Studios Australia. The start date was pushed back to January 2010, but the production moved to Louisiana, where, on March 3, 2010 test footage was filmed in Madisonville involving stunt cars. Principal photography began on March 15, 2010 in New Orleans. Nine days after filming began, Angela Bassett joined the cast as Dr. Amanda Waller, a government agent who is a staple of the DC Comics series.

In April filming took place at the University of New Orleans. The film crew and cast shot interior scenes during the day in the Science Building, over the course of the university's Spring Break recess. Also in April Jon Tenney revealed that he will play Hal Jordan's father, test pilot Martin H. Jordan. By June 2010 filming had begun at New Orleans Lakefront Airport. In the same month it was reported that Mike Doyle has been cast for the role of Jack Jordan, the older brother of Hal Jordan.

In July 2010 it was reported that Ryan Reynolds was injured while shooting scenes for the film, separating his shoulder and was in "lots of pain".

Geoff Johns confirms on his Twitter account the film ended principal photography on August 6, 2010 and entered post-production. In an interview with MTV News, director Martin Campbell when asked about the film's effects-heavy epic scale commented; "It's daunting, just the process, (there are) something like 1,300 visual shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly". When asked about the constructs created from the power rings Campbell stated; "One of the nice things is, we'll all sit down and say, 'Well, what are we going to do here?' Really, it's as much as your imagination can go to make the constructs". The studio also confirmed to MTV News that the film will have a 3-D release.

In January 2011 it was reported that Green Lantern had begun re-shoots for key scenes at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, California. In March 2011 it was reported that Geoffrey Rush had joined the cast as the voice of the CGI-created character, Tomar-Re.

In April 2011 it was reported that Michael Clarke Duncan entered negotiations to voice Kilowog. Also in April it was reported that Warner Bros. raised the visual effects budget by $9 million and hired additional visual effects studios to bolster the ranks of the team that has been working overtime to meet the film's June 17 launch.

The first footage of the film was shown at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. The footage was widely released online in November 2010 with thirty seconds of footage airing the following day on Entertainment Tonight. The first full theatrical trailer for the film was shown before screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and became available online in November 2010. This initial trailer was met with a poor reception from fans and, as a result, the film's marketing campaign was delayed. Sue Kroll, the studio's worldwide marketing president stated, "Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show, and we suffered for it. We can't afford to do that again." In April Warner Bros. debuted nine minutes of footage at the 2011 WonderCon in San Francisco. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the footage wowed the audience. A four minute cut of the WonderCon footage was later released online.

According to Comics Continuum, an animated Green Lantern film is in the works at Warner Bros. Animation and will be part of a direct-to-video project that will be timed for release of the live-action Green Lantern movie in the summer of 2011. The Green Lantern animated project will likely take a look at the origins of the Green Lantern Corps, including the first ring wielders. In an interview with Bruce Timm, the producer revealed that a sequel to the Green Lantern animated movie had been discussed but cancelled, along with a sequel to the Wonder Woman animated film, because of the two pictures not achieving the immediate success that they had hoped for. However, Timm did hope the live action film would renew interest in a sequel. The animated movie entitled Green Lantern: Emerald Knights was officially announced in June 2010 instead.

Six Flags has bought the rights to the name, and will debut two roller coasters named Green Lantern at Six Flags Great Adventure and Magic Mountain in 2011 to coincide with the film's release.

Warner Bros. Interactive announced at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2010 that a video game, titled Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters was in development and would be released along with the film for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii by Double Helix Games and Nintendo DS and PSP by Griptonite Games and Nintendo 3DS by unknown creator.

The film won the award for "Most Anticipated Movie" at the 2010 Los Angeles Scream Awards. The award was presented to Ryan Reynolds by his co-star, Blake Lively.

Director Martin Campbell has confirmed the possibility of seeing a Green Lantern trilogy during interviews for Edge of Darkness. In June 2010, Warner Brothers studios hired Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, all of whom worked on the Green Lantern screenplay, to write a treatment for the second installment. In August 2010, Warner Brothers hired Michael Goldenberg to write the screenplay, based on the sequel treatment.

Abrams and Spielberg collaborated in a storytelling committee to come up with the story for the film. It was initially reported to be either a sequel, or a prequel to the 2008 film Cloverfield. However, Abrams quickly responded to those reports by stating, "You have to check the trailer, but it has nothing to do with Cloverfield". It is shot traditionally, and filming started in fall 2010. The teaser itself was filmed separately in April. This film is the first original J. J. Abrams film project Amblin Entertainment, Bad Robot Productions, and Paramount Pictures will produce. Filming took place in Weirton, West Virginia, from September-October 2010.

The first teaser trailer for the film screened ahead of theatrical releases of Iron Man 2. It depicted the seemingly deliberate derailment of a United States Air Force train (tagged "Groom Lake One"), which was presumably transporting undisclosed materials from Area 51 to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and the subsequent escape of an unknown entity from inside one of the cargo cars. On February 6, 2011, a 30-second television advertisement for Super 8 premiered during the American broadcast of the Super Bowl XLV on FOX. The commercial had been promoted in the days leading up to the Super Bowl XLV with online advertising that itself contained teaser images and a hidden code. On March 11 the first theatrical trailer premiered on Twitter, then it was with screenings of Battle: Los Angeles. The poster and wallpaper were unveiled that same night. In addition to the released trailers, a variety of movie clips have been unlocked by users of the official website.

Portal 2, a game from Valve Software, which was released on April 19, 2011, contains a short interactive trailer for the movie created in the Source Engine and shows the events of the train crash. Walking through the aftermath of the crash, the player comes to view a train car with an armored door. Something smashes the door open, but the trailer cuts to black, and is followed by the roar of an escaped creature.

The film is planned for theatrical release on June 10, 2011.

In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men. The film is distributed by 20th Century Fox. In April 2006, one month before the release of X-Men: The Last Stand, writer Zak Penn revealed he was contracted to write and direct a spin-off. He later explained in 2007 that "the original idea was to have me do a young X-Men spin-off, a spin-off of the young X-Men characters. But someone came up with a pretty interesting idea [...] it was this guy who worked with me named Mike Chamoy, he worked a lot with me on X3. He came up with how to do a young X-Men movie which is not what you'd expect." Penn compared the idea to the comic book series X-Men: First Class, and Josh Schwartz was writing the screenplay in May 2008. Schwartz's writing assignment also included the possibility of directing of X-Men: First Class, but Fox approached Bryan Singer, director of X-Men and X2, in October 2009. The original idea was to green-light the film depending on the success of X-Men Origins: Magneto, but Singer added elements of the Magneto spin-off, merged into a new script by Jamie Moss. In addition to Moss, Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz were hired to rewrite the script. Miller compared it tonally to Singer's work on the first two X-Men films. Singer dropped out of the director's position in March 2010 due to his commitment to a Jack the Giant Killer adaptation. He formalized his duties from director to producer. Matthew Vaughn signed on as Singer's replacement in May 2010. With his hiring, Fox announced a June 3, 2011 release date, and Jane Goldman was hired for another rewrite. Vaughn wanted to model X-Men: First Class after the 2009 Star Trek film, taking the franchise in a new direction with a fresh, young cast. An action scene that was to have been set in a dream sequence with revolving rooms was scrapped after the release of Inception. The 1960s setting of X-Men: First Class will be technologically inspired by the James Bond films of that era, also adding to the international feel of the characters. The X-Men costumes will look much more as they did in the original comics compared with the first three films. Stan Lee will not have a cameo, due to most of the film being filmed in England.

Principal photography began on August 31, 2010, in Oxford, England, which included St Aldate's street and some of the University of Oxford's buildings, lasting for two days. Production then moved to Pinewood Studios in Iver, and to Georgia in October, including Jekyll Island, Thunderbolt and Savannah, after sites in Louisiana, North Carolina and West Michigan were considered. Jekyll Island was chosen over Tybee Island after a producer reviewed the locations on Google Earth and thought the water near Jekyll looked more blue. Additional location shooting will take place in Russia.

The first domestic teaser trailer was released on February 10, 2011. A Russian trailer was released on March 15, 2011. The international trailer was released on April 10, 2011. The theatrical trailer was released on April 27, 2011.

It has been announced that British group Take That will provide the official song of the film. The song, entitled "Love Love" will be released worldwide on May 11 and will be played during the end credits.

Before May 24, the film was screened for film blog sites. Drew McWeeny of Hitfix called it "a genuinely good movie, not just a good superhero movie. Big and bold and aggressively told, it feels to me like this is the first film in a brand-new franchise, and even the few very wicked and enjoyable references to Singer's films that are hidden in this one don't tie it down." Brendan Connelly of BleedingCool.com said it "contains some of the briskest and most efficient storytelling I've seen in any recent blockbuster. An awful lot happens, and awfully quickly at times, but it’s all clear and while some nice moments might be over in the blink of an eye, this can only reward repeat viewers."

Peter Sciretta of Slash Film wrote, "It strikes a great balance of being accessible to non-comic book fans and packing some pretty cool easter [sic] eggs that comic geeks will love." Whereas Den of Geek's Michael Leader said that "despite all the ropey posters and off-putting promo material, X-Men: First Class manages to be a summer movie with something to say. Let’s just hope they don’t run this one into the ground, too, because I dread seeing an X-Men: Economy Class down the line."

Fox envisions X-Men: First Class as the first film of a new trilogy. Donner compared the franchise plans to be similar to the darker, more mature content of the Harry Potter film series. While speaking about the sequels, director Matthew Vaughn said that "First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time. But with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time. That’s the main difference between Begins and The Dark Knight."

In April 2009 Warner Bros. set director Todd Phillips to write a sequel to The Hangover with Scot Armstrong. The dealmaking came two months before The Hangover was released on June 5, 2009. While studios often wait to see box office results before committing to a sequel, The Hangover tested strongly, and a trailer brought down the house at ShoWest.

Variety later reported in July 2009, that production on The Hangover 2 would begin in October 2010, for a Memorial Day 2011 release, following the same production schedule used for the first film. Also in July Zach Galifianakis stated in an interview with Latino Review that the film will be set in Thailand, "Well, I think we're going to Thailand. The problem with 'Hangover 2' is that we have to live up to what we did which is very difficult. So we get, I think, kind of kidnapped. It has nothing to do with the bachelor party. We're definitely not doing that again but we do end up in an exotic location. That's all I know".

In January 2010 director Todd Phillips dismissed rumors that Zac Efron would join the cast of The Hangover 2, though actor Ed Helms stated Efron would be a welcomed addition, commenting, "I love that guy. He's actually really funny".

In March 2010 Todd Phillips denied reports that the film would take place in Mexico or Thailand stating, "I don’t know. There’s a lot of rumors. There was rumor also that it was going to Mexico or something and neither are true". Also in March it was reported that Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha had all completed talks and were ready to sign deals to reprise their roles in the sequel. Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms will each reportedly be paid in the vicinity of $5 million against 4% of first dollar gross. Director/producer Todd Phillips will reportedly be paid around $10 million against 10%. Phillips was also offered escalators and bonuses to ensure that if the sequel does anywhere close to the original’s $467 million worldwide gross, then he would not make less than his income on the original.

In June 2010, before accepting the Guy Movie of the Year award on the Spike Guys Choice Awards, director Todd Phillips announced that there will be a Hangover 2 and are hoping to begin filming around October 15, 2010 for a July 4, 2011 weekend release.

In July 2010 it was confirmed that film will indeed be set in Thailand and earlier comments made by Todd Phillips denying such reports was a deliberate case of misdirection. The following month Bradley Cooper stated he believes the rumors to be true and was looking forward to filming The Hangover 2 in Thailand.

In October 2010, it was confirmed by director Todd Phillips that the film would take place in Bangkok and Los Angeles and that Galifianakis, Cooper, Helms and Jeong would be returning.

Principal photography began on October 8, 2010 in Ontario, California with the first images of production being released a few days later. It was also reported in October that actress Heather Graham would not be reprising her role as Jade from the first film. Later in the same month it was reported that Mel Gibson would have a cameo appearance in the film as a Bangkok tattoo artist. Four days later Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and director Todd Phillips confirmed that Gibson would not be appearing in the film. Phillips stated: “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of [WB president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew." Liam Neeson stepped in to replace Mel Gibson after he was invited to take the cameo role via his A-Team co-star Bradley Cooper. Neeson, a fan of the first film stated, "I just got a call to do a one day shoot on 'Hangover 2' as a tattooist in Thailand, and that's all I know about it". Gibson was reportedly furious over the decision. A source close to Gibson stated, "He doesn't understand why Mike Tyson, a drug user who turned his life around, was given a chance while Mel was kicked to the curb. Everybody deserves a second chance".

In November 2010 it was reported that Jamie Chung had been cast in the film as Stu's fiancée as well as it being renamed, The Hangover: Part II. In an interview director Todd Phillips revealed that Mike Tyson would be back in the sequel. Also in November it was reported that Paul Giamatti had joined the cast. The next day it was reported that former U.S. President Bill Clinton filmed a cameo appearance for the film in Bangkok while he was in the city to deliver a speech on clean energy. However Ed Helms clarified that Clinton merely visited the set and would be surprised if he appeared in the film.

In December 2010 it was reported that Bryan Callen, who played the owner of the wedding chapel in The Hangover, is working again in The Hangover: Part II, as “a smarmy strip club owner in Bangkok”. Also in December, Australian stuntman Scott McLean was seriously injured in a traffic accident while filming a stunt sequence near Bangkok. Warner Bros. issued a statement stating McLean was put into a medically induced coma but is expected to recover.

In February 2011 it was reported that Christophe Beck would be reteaming with director Todd Phillips to score the film. The project marks the fourth collaboration between Beck and Philips, who also worked together on School for Scoundrels, The Hangover and Due Date.

In April 2011 Variety reported that Liam Neeson's cameo as a Bangkok tattoo artist had been cut and Nick Cassavetes has been re-cast in the role. While editing, Phillips cut the scene that immediately followed Neeson's cameo, meaning it no longer had the information necessary to logically get the main characters to the situation in the next scene. Three weeks later, Phillips decided to reshoot the scene, but with Neeson in London filming Wrath of the Titans, the actor was no longer available. Phillips explaned, "We were in a complete time crunch so I called up Nick and asked if he would do the part. He came in and crushed it and that is the scene that you will ultimately see in the film. [I'm excited for everyone] to see the film. It turned out great".

The first teaser trailer was released online in February 2011. The first full trailer was released in April 2011. Later in the same month Warner Bros. pulled the trailer from theaters for violating an MPAA rule stating that films can only trailer before similarly rated movies. The trailer for the R-rated comedy was being promoted at screenings for the PG-13-rated, Source Code against MPAA regulations. Warner Bros. released a statement saying, "In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens".

Shortly before the premiere of At World's End, Jerry Bruckheimer stated it was the end of the trilogy, but the idea of a spin-off was still possible. After the film's successful opening weekend, Dick Cook, former Chairman of Walt Disney Studio Entertainment, said he was interested in a fourth installment. On September 25, 2008, during a Disney event at the Kodak Theater, Cook and Johnny Depp, in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume, announced that a fourth Pirates movie had been put into development.

In June 2009, Jerry Bruckheimer stated Disney would prefer the fourth installment of Pirates be released before The Lone Ranger film, which he, Johnny Depp, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio had been working on for release on May 20, 2011. He also hoped Gore Verbinski would return to direct after his BioShock film adaptation had been put on hold. Rob Marshall entered negotiations to direct in August 2009, and was confirmed as the director on November 17, 2009. Hollywood Elsewhere announced a possible steampunk flair in the fourth installment. On September 11, 2009, at Disney's D23 convention, the title was announced as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

In September 2009, Dick Cook resigned after working for Disney for over 38 years. The circumstances of his resignation are unknown, but most speculate he resigned due to his conflicting business tactics with CEO Bob Iger. Iger sought out "new ways of doing business", while Cook remained a traditionalist. After Cook's resignation, Johnny Depp's faith in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides had somewhat shaken, with Depp explaining that "There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment. It was all born in that office". Depp also explained Cook was one of the few who accepted his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, claiming that "When things went a little sideways on the first Pirates movie and others at the studio were less than enthusiastic about my interpretation of the character, Dick was there from the first moment. He trusted me."

On October 7, 2009, author Tim Powers confirmed that Disney bought the rights of his novel, On Stranger Tides, in April 2007. The script was written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who wrote the whole Pirates trilogy, and Rossio has stated that they will use elements from the novel, particularly Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth, but the film would not be a straight adaptation. Initial rumors stated the story had Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa meeting up in the newly founded New Orleans, before they sail to find the Fountain of Youth together. A production spokesman debunked the rumors, saying that the synopsis is different and even though location scouts visited New Orleans, production would occur in Hawaii and the United Kingdom.

Depp signed on to return as Captain Jack Sparrow in September 2008, saying that he would come back if the script was good. Almost a year later, Disney announced that Depp would be paid $55.5 million to return as Captain Jack Sparrow, realizing that without him the franchise would be "dead and buried." Geoffrey Rush expressed interest in returning to his role as Barbossa, and Bruckheimer later confirmed his presence. Greg Ellis has confirmed that he will be back as Lt. Theodore Groves, and Bruckheimer confirmed that Kevin McNally will be back as Joshamee Gibbs. Previous cast members Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley stated that they would not reprise their roles as they wanted to be involved in different films, and that they thought the Will/Elizabeth storyline had gone as far as it could. On February 5, 2010, Mackenzie Crook also announced he would not be reprising his role of Ragetti, stating, "They haven't asked me. But actually I don't mind that at all. I'm a fan of the first one especially and I think the trilogy we've made is great. I'd almost like them to leave it there."

New cast members include Ian McShane, confirmed to play the notorious pirate and new nemesis Blackbeard, and Penélope Cruz, confirmed to play Angelica, Captain Jack Sparrow's love interest in the film. Cruz's character was previously described as "Jack Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways". Stephen Graham has been confirmed to play Scrum, a Machiavellian pirate, and be the sidekick to Captain Jack Sparrow. On April 14, 2010, French actress Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey was confirmed to play a mermaid named Syrena. Australian supermodel Gemma Ward was confirmed to play a mermaid on June 13, 2010. Casting for mermaids required the actresses to have natural breasts, no implants, as Bruckheimer explained to EW, “I don’t think they had breast augmentation in the 1700s [...] So it’s natural for casting people to say, ‘We want real people.'” On April 16, 2010, Sam Claflin was confirmed to play a missionary named Philip, and on May 25, British actor Paul Bazely was confirmed in the cast. Keith Richards is set to reprise his role as Captain Teague from At World's End, and he and Depp are trying to persuade Mick Jagger to audition for a pirate elder. Spanish news website El Pais reported that the film will have a total of four Spanish actors which include Penélope Cruz, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Óscar Jaenada, and Juan Carlos Vellido.

Principal photography began on June 14, 2010 in Hawaii. Filming was scheduled to move to California in August 2010, and some scenes were filmed at Pinewood Studios in London.

According to the Los Angeles Time, the film's budget was limited to $200 million, $100 million less than At World's End and $25 million less than Dead Man's Chest, in order to cut costs.

On May 17, 2010, Rich Ross confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides would be shot and released in Disney Digital 3-D. On June 15, the first pictures of Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, were revealed. On June 21, it was announced that production would be occurring simultaneously in Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, on the island of Palomino, and Los Angeles, California. In October, security was breached at the UK site when a celebrity impersonator was able to gain access to filming at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London by dressing up as Captain Jack.

On January 25, 2011, the acclaimed composer Eric Whitacre stated on his blog and Facebook page that he and Hans Zimmer, along with Whitacre's wife Hila Plitmann, are collaborating on the soundtrack for the film. Zimmer, who has composed soundtracks for many high-profile films, was the composer for the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean films and contributed some material to the first. On March 2, 2011, Whitacre indicated that he would be recording the choir for Pirates 4 at Abbey Road Studio. It was announced on February 22, 2011 that Rodrigo y Gabriela contributed to composing and performing the music. This is the first time the duo has collaborated with Zimmer. The soundtrack will be released on May 17, 2011, three days before the US release of the film.

The first footage from the film appeared on Entertainment Tonight on December 4, 2010. The first trailer premiered on December 13, 2010, and it was also included with the release of Tron: Legacy. ESPN 3D also aired a 3D trailer of the movie on December 17, 2010 during an NBA game. A television commercial for the film debuted during the Super Bowl, including an extended version of the television spot that was later released online. A second and final trailer was released on March 21, 2011, focusing more on the plot than the previous trailer and commercials. The Lego Group also produced toy sets for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, including a video game. From May 20, 2011 to June 22, 2011, the El Capitan Theatre is giving away commemorative bags containing “Pieces of Eight” replica coins to patrons viewing the film. The “Pieces of Eight” are supplied by Goldline International who also provided four 18th century Mexican 8 Escudo gold coins to be awarded to randomly selected patrons at the El Capitan and one 18th century Peruvian 8 Escudo gold coin to be awarded in a national sweepstakes.

On January 6, 2010 Disney announced that the film would be released in the United States and Canada on May 20, 2011, following Columbia Pictures' announcement of a delay in the Spider-Man reboot and Paramount Pictures slating Thor to May 6, 2011. The movie will be released in the United Kingdom on May 18, 2011 and Australia on May 19, 2011, with other international release dates falling within May 18 and May 20, 2011. It will be released in IMAX 3D, as well as traditional 2D and IMAX format. An early screening of the film will also take place during the Cannes International Film Festival.

Priest is directed by Scott Stewart and written by Cory Goodman. The film is based on the Korean comics Priest by Min-Woo Hyung. The project was first announced in March 2005 when the studio Screen Gems bought Goodman's spec script. In January 2006, Andrew Douglas, who directed The Amityville Horror, was attached to direct Priest. In June 2006, actor Gerard Butler entered negotiations to star as the title character, and filming was scheduled to start in Mexico on October 1, 2006. By March 2009, Douglas was replaced by Stewart, who impressed Screen Gems with Legion. Paul Bettany replaced Butler in the starring role. Filming began in August 2009 in Los Angeles, California, and it concluded in November 2009.

Tokyopop flew Min-Woo Hyung to where production was taking place so the comics' creator could visit the art department and discuss the film with Stewart. The film diverges from the comics in following a different timeline of events. The director described Priest's vampires as not being human in origin, and humans bitten by vampires became familiars instead. There are different forms of vampires, such as hive drones, guardians, and a queen. Since the vampires were intended to move quickly, they were fully computer-generated for the film. While vampires are harmed by sunlight in most lore, the film's vampires are instead photosensitive, being albino cave-dwellers. Stewart said, "They are the enemy we don't really understand, but we fought them for centuries. They are mysterious and alien, with their own culture. You sense that they think and communicate, but you don't really understand what they are saying." The director also called Priest an homage to The Searchers with the title character being similar to John Wayne's character and the vampires being similar to the Comanche. Stewart described the priests:
The priests of our story are like Jedi knights. They have these supernatural abilities to fight vampires and they saved humanity before the movie even begins. Now, a generation later, society has moved on from war, and the priests are like pariahs. They're almost like Vietnam vets—they've been cast aside by society and they're now reviled and feared.
Priest is scheduled to be released in the United States and Canada on May 13, 2011. The film's release date changed numerous times in 2010 and 2011. It was originally scheduled for October 1, 2010, but it moved earlier to August 27, 2010 to fill a weekend slot when another Screen Gems film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, was postponed. When the filmmakers wanted to convert Priest from 2D to 3D, the film was newly scheduled for release on January 14, 2011. It was delayed again to May 13, 2011 so the film could attract summertime audiences.
